He’s had a long-running feud with the Academy.
Hollywood’s biggest night was in full swing, and Adam Sandler, as expected, showed up in his finest attire—just kidding.
Right at the start of the 97th Academy Awards, host Conan O’Brien wasted no time poking fun at Sandler’s choice of clothing.
True to his signature style, Sandler arrived dressed in a blue zip-up hoodie, basketball shorts, and sneakers—an ensemble more suited for a late-night snack run than the red carpet.
“Adam, what exactly are you wearing?” Conan asked.
“No one was thinking about my outfit until you brought it up,” Sandler quipped in response.
Conan doubled down, joking, “You look like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m., Adam.”
Sandler, unfazed, fired back: “You know what, Conan? I like how I look because I’m a good person. I don’t care about what I wear or don’t wear.”
He then called out Conan for putting him on blast in front of Hollywood’s elite and playfully threatened to walk out of the ceremony.
But not before cracking a joke at his own expense.
“You’re all welcome to join me for a 5-on-5 basketball game…”
Sandler’s history with the Oscars has been rocky at best. After being snubbed in 2020 for his role in Uncut Gems, he didn’t hesitate to share his thoughts.
While accepting the award for ‘Best Male Lead’ at the 35th Film Independent Spirit Awards, he made his feelings known in classic Sandler fashion.
“A few weeks back, when I was quote-unquote snubbed by the Academy, it reminded me of when I briefly attended high school and was overlooked for the coveted yearbook superlative category Best Looking.”
He went on: “That honor went to some jean-jacket-wearing, feather-haired d**chebag named Skipper Jenkins. But my classmates did award me the supposedly less prestigious title of Best Personality.”
“So let all those featherhead dbag motherfk**s get their Oscars tomorrow night! Their handsome good looks will fade, but our independent personalities will shine forever!”
So, was Sandler’s ‘walkout’ this year another jab at the Academy? Or just classic Sandler antics? Either way, when it comes to roasting Hollywood, the man never misses.
